Worship Grow Serve Share

Share

Sharing is an extension of service that leads us to offer our resources to meet the needs of others.
We share together to support the operation and facilities of St. Mark's to provide a place for  people to work together as the church.
Some of our local sharing ministries are occasional, like Angel Tree and Christmas Baskets.  Other ministries are ongoing, like Grandma's Attic and the Food Pantry.

As a partner in the organized ministry of the United Methodist Church, St. Mark's participates in the mission work of the church around the world.
United Methodists refer to this as "shared ministries."
In 2012 our share is $243,139.

Our United Methodist disaster relief agency (UMCOR) is always ready.  Because we support UMCOR's administrative structure, 100% of gifts given for relief are used in relief efforts.  UMCOR has a record for being first in and last out of disaster situations.  By cooperating fully with other relief agencies, they work to provide the best response possible in any situation.

Imagine No Malaria  is a mission dear to the hearts of many at St. Mark's. In the poorest parts of the world, where effective window screens are lacking, insecticide-treated bed nets are arguably the most cost-effective way to prevent malaria transmission. One bed net can safely last a family for about four years, thanks to a long-lasting insecticide woven into the net fabric.  There are other ways that Imagine No Malaria works to prevent the spread of the disease.  Medicines are stocked at local clinics to curtail the effects of the disease, and prevention information is distributed by training people in local communities.

The Four Core Words that are the Mission and Vision Values of St. Mark's
WORSHIP   St. Mark's is committed to offering multiple  worship services, in multiple styles and venues, with excellence, so that God may be praised and that people may encounter the Living Christ.
GROW   St. Mark's is committed to creating a church-wide discipleship system to move people to follow Christ, form faith, and fulfill their call; we will offer many additional ways to grow:  through events and groups, and by equipping people with personal spiritual disciplines.
SERVE   St. Mark's is committed to creating and inviting our members into opportunities to serve and be in mission.  We will cultivate a culture of service, and stress that mission is central to the church's reason for being.
SHARE   St. Mark's is committed to developing leaders.  We will teach through the church, school and preschool.  We will give beyond the walls of our church campus.
